Running Shoes: What I Wear and Why.

Hello, since I have a lengthy blog post on how to choose running shoes, I thought I would share the shoes I have worn for years now and explain why they have become my instant choice.

My shoes of choice are the New Balance 990v6 running shoes. I am tall and carry a decent amount of muscle and a little more softness around the midsection than I need, so support in my shoes is very important. The quality of these shoes is amazing, even with regular running and wearing them to the gym they will easily last me at least a year. They are made in the USA and feel great on my feet right out of the box.

Here are the techy features of this shoe:

  • FuelCell foam delivers a propulsive feel to help drive you forward
  • ENCAP midsole cushioning combines lightweight foam with a durable polyurethane rim to deliver all-day support
  • Reflective accents designed to catch the light
  • TPU back tab
  • New Balance MADE contains a domestic value of 70% or more. MADE makes up a limited portion of New Balance’s US sales.
  • Styles produced after the Summer of 2023 have a flag emblem at the heel, in place of the flying New Balance logo. Because of overlapping stock, you may receive either version with your order.
  • This item is limited to “3” per order
  •   374.5 grams (13.2 oz)

If you don’t mind a shoe that is heavier than others but has some truly amazing stability then this is the shoe to look at. I wear a size 13 X-Wide on the New Balance sizing and I believe this translates to 13 DD in the standard US sizing for men.

These shoes are good for people with:

  • Very Wide Feet
  • High Arches
  • Average Foot Height
  • Very Wide Heels

This pretty much describes my feet perfectly which may be why these shoes fit so well. If you don’t have high arches by want the other benefits of this shoe you can always try out an insole such as the ones I use, Superfeet.
